o hai bandwagon, let me hitch a ride

I will say that this is one of the cooler memes. I've really, really enjoyed just searching "influence map" and looking at all the interesting things that people have put in.

So here's mine! With long winded comments that nobody will bother reading!

:bulletblue: Maynard Keenan: musician and vocalist of Tool, A Perfect Circle and Puscifer. He is ridiculously talented, crazy, and just plain awesome. Usually I go through music and artists like water but Maynard is one who I think will stay for a while. His voice is incredible, his talent and intellect immense, and I really like and respect his bitchin' attitude and artistic thoughts/process. Along with Android Jones he's one of my top REAL artists and inspirations.
Also, everything he puts out reminds me of my story and characters. Probably because his VOICE reminds me of the protagonist, which is really cool.

:bulletblue: Android Jones (aka Andrew Jones): his stuff is crazy awesome. Look at it. You'd be hard pressed to find something tripper and cooler than that. I like to think that his art shows imagination ITSELF which is a pretty incredible feat.

:bulletblue: Amazing painted digital works: I couldn't find anything in particular that would express this. I just really enjoy beautiful painted digital works, and I want to break into the scene too and start practising.

:bulletblue: Supernatural: mythlogy, folklore and the supernatural influence my stories a lot. I find it all incredibly interesting.
It's too bad that I scare shitless REALLY easily.
(artwork by Android Jones, because I couldn't find anything suitable on gaia)

:bulletblue: concept art: concept art in general, especially character art. My dream job is in concept art.

:bulletblue: Starcraft: my first real fandom as an older child, and still my favourite game/universe of all time. The original games inspired me a lot, especially when it comes to character design, dark story elements and scifi.

:bulletblue: David Eddings: was introduced to The Belgariad by my first high school math teacher, who saw me buried in my brick of a Dragonlance book one lesson. Took me a while to get around to reading him, but immediately I was hooked. His books are filled with high fantasy tropes and clichés - but the difference is that he makes them AWESOME. The characters are all incredible, the humour sharp and dry, the writing great. I was so sad that he died recently, looking back I actually would have liked to write him a fanletter, saying how much his books influenced me.

:bulletblue: Dystopic scifi: I'm a pessimist. I don't have much hope for human morals in the future, so I really love dark dystopic scifi and cyberpunk. I have a couple of my own ideas for the genre, that I might explore in the future.
Image of Blade Runner, since it's a bitchin' awesome movie.

:bulletblue: Mucha: art nouveau is one of my favourite artstyles, Mucha one of my favourite artists. Not much else to say, I just love his stuff. I've noticed he's really popular in these influence maps, too.

:bulletblue: Greek mythology: I love ancient history and mythology and Greek gods and things are particularly awesome, and I've drawn a lot of inspiration off of the legends (and mythology in general). Image of Prometheus, having his liver devoured by the eagle. Name sound familiar? That's how closely I like to root my stories in mythology.

:bulletblue: Orchestral music: alt rock, prog rock and electronica are my favourite genres, but there's nothing cooler than listening to some epic orchestral music to get in the inspiration going. Strings are my favourite, especially violin and double bass.

:bulletblue: Taiga environments: the "taiga biome" or boreal biome [link] is a large section of environment characterised by conifer forests, mostly situated in Canada, Russia and Scandinavia. It's only one step down from tundra. Shows up a lot in my stories and character influence.

:bulletblue: Dragonlance: my first real fantasy love. I devoured these books in primary school - I was given the collectors edition first trilogy, all 1030 pages of it, when I was about 9 or 10. They were full of war, betrayal, and very risqué pseudo-sex scenes - I probably shouldn't have been reading them lmao. But they inspired me to start writing again.
Picture is of Raistlin, my favourite character. *u* He's a horrific anti-hero character, much more evil than good, and he made me fall in love with amoral characters. You can probably blame him for Elepon.

:bulletblue: Akihiko Yoshida: character designer and artist behind a good deal of final fantasy games (Tactics, FFXII). Really love his style (more than Nomura, sorry :B )

:bulletblue: Clint Mansell: composer behind Requiem for a Dream (aka Lux Aeterna). SUCH a genius, all his stuff is amazing.

:bulletblue: Pan's Labyrinth: my favourite movie, influences a lot of my more folklore-based concepts and stories.
