Dude... shit... by GrimGoblin Dude... shit... by GrimGoblin
Oh dear, I'm so sorry Fenix! <3 *huggles him*

Yeah, I was browsing Wikipedia, and for whatever reason possible I felt like looking up Starcraft and refreshing my memory of the plot and characters and all. And I was reading up on Praetor Fenix (one of my favourite characters (actually, my first official fav SC character), and I was fully punched in the face when remembering the "Fall of Fenix" cutscene. *sniffles* Annyyywaayyy, this scene just popped into my head suddenly, and demanded to be drawn.

I'm sorry Fenix. I love you man, I just had to make fun of that scene though. Fenix swearing under his... mind-breathe amuses me to no end. >w< This is by no means to be taken seriously.

For those of you not familiar with Starcraft at all, or with Fenix, I'll give you a rundown. Early on in the Protoss campaign, you (the Executor) go on a mission to slay some Zerg forces. However, whist doing so, Fenix, the Protoss Praetor, is ambushed by the Zerg whist patrolling a defense post outside of the Protoss city Antioch. All this takes place in a cutscene, and "conveniently", Fenix's Psi/Warp blades "malfunction" leaving him to the mercy of the Zerg, who thus proceed to "kill" him (although he is reborn into a Dragoon later on).

So yeah. This is Fenix's psi blade conking out on him, and him swearing. Because face it, Fenix swearing? Dude, Raynor better lay off him - he's a bad influence. XD I mean, seriously, you can SO hear him saying that. And I can't help but laugh in the cutscene - he's expression is so, "this is NOT my day".

I will admit that scene whenever I see it makes me laugh even though I think Fenix is the coolest protoss ever XD

well, dA ate my comment earlier, so I'll have to resubmit:
This always was one of the saddest cinematics, but always the best to make fun of. I've never seen it done this way, though. And now that you mention it, I can totally see Fenix saying that.
Great drawing, too, the expression is perfect!

I know, the protoss cutscenes always make me cry. T__T I was sobbing my head off at the end of episode III (the one with Tassadar, you know? Tassadar has always been one of my favourite characters, and... *sniffs*).

But yeah, I always found it funny that the Protoss, one of THE most technologically advanced races in our galaxy (excluding the Xel'Naga, but if I remember correctly they came from a different galaxy, right?) - but SOMEHOW Fenix's blade just HAPPENS to malfunction on him at THE most inopportune moment. Think about it - Fenix, the Steward of Aiur and Praetor of the forces... and his psi blades just... vanish. Its all very convenient and rigged.

I mean, seriously. That's like, the worst time for it to happen. Like when you're playing shooter games, and your character just decides to reload RIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF A MAJOR SHOOT OUT.

You know the saddest cutscene? When Kerrigen finally kills Fenix. That... omg, I'm am SO going to be rooting for Raynor in SC2.

I love your sig by the way. Yes, lets all blame Tassadar!

Yeah, the cutscene at the end of Episode III is THE worst. I swear, you can just barely hear Tassadar scream out just before impact. The stuff of nightmares. But hey, at least it's a flattering shot.
Have you read any of the Starcraft books yet? If not, you should at least read Queen of Blades. Tassadar, Raynor and Zeratul put on an awesome performance in there.

As for the blades crapping out, my theory is psionic interference. The Zerg run on close to the same mental "frequency" as the Protoss so they could have done something to momentarily interfere with psi-blades. Weak explanation, but it works for me.
When you run out of bullets during major shoot out: Melee! Harder to aim that way, especially when your character keeps trying to reload between hits, but VERY fun. I wonder if Fenix just resorted to punching or throttling those Hydralisks...

Saddest cutscene's: Tassadar's death, Fenix's death, Aldaris' death, Raszagal's death... the Protoss always get the short end of the stick it seems. At least they still have Zeratul and Artanis.

{Lawl, big reply ;] }
I know... the look on his face, and the heartbeat in the background...
Yeah, at least he looks kickass throughout it.
But you know what really annoyed the hell out of me? Zeratul and his dark templar can like, whoop an overmind any day, but Tassadar has to frickin plow his ship into it to destroy it. *kicks the ground muttering angrily*

Aahh, damnit, now I want to read them! I've a couple of fanfictions on the net, but I doubt their half as good. If only I knew where to get the official novels - the libraries in my area are probably too stupid to stock in some Starcraft novels...
But I have a friend who has a SC book. I can't remember what its called... the ironic thing is that he's only played SC once, and that was over here on my computer. Because he sucks like that. *plots to steal it off him*

I can see the reasoning behind that, but if that's the case, why doesn't protoss tech conk out on them all the time the Zerg are near?
Ohh, here's a horrible thought - the first IV mission, with the warp gate? Imagine if Zeratul and the Khalai had just made it there, and its like.... Dude... Its not working. *pushes buttons repeatably*

Melee is fun. The shooter game I'm playing with at the moment (FF7: Dirge of Cerberus) is neato when it comes to melee. You get to jack people up with Vincent's shoes~ :]]
Yeah, seeing as the protoss are also physically verrah strong, I don't see why Fenix couldn't have, like, just punched that Hydralisk a couple of times in the face. Kick it with his feet. Or headbutt it. XD Of course, if more came... He might have a run for his money.

I cried when Tassadar died. And when Fenix "died" the first time, I'm like, "OMG, NO, HE WAS AWESOME". But then his real death... My friend with the SC novel? He still torments me with the fact that you have to murder him in the Zerg campaign (he was there when it... happened, you see). And the words Raynor and Kerrigen exchange. Dude. Those are... Wow. And although Aldaris is an ass, I miss him and his idiocy. :[ Its kinda like he's always there, and when he's not, everything feels empty without his threats and yellings. And poor Zer, having to kill Raszagal like that... *huggles him to death*

Yeah, Zeratul and Arty are the only decent protoss commanders left. And I mean, with Zeratul as the new leader of pretty much all the protoss now... many they'll get back on track with some smart decisions for once.
Artanis makes me laugh. :3 He's such a dork.

Artanis IS a dork, but he's such a CUTE dork, and he's a real sweetie too. Little bit of a knucklehead, but hey, he's got some growing up to do. *laughs*

And for the record, i agree with...like...everything said here so far.

What's even better: Tassadar's kamikaze crash wasn't the original plot. At first, Blizzard was going to have Tassadar and Zeratul merge into a Dark Archon, but they couldn't code the unit in time.

There are about six Starcraft books out so far, and I think you can get them all on Amazon. They're all great, but if you can't get your hands on all of them, then at least try for Liberty's Crusade, Shadow of the Xel'Naga, Queen of Blades, and Firstborn. Firstborn is the first of a trilogy (The Dark Templar saga) and the author considers it canon for Starcraft II. It references a lot of stuff from Shadow of the Xel'Naga so you'll need to read that one first.
They also made a prolouge book for Starcraft Ghost. It doesn't really have any bearing on the rest of the series, but it's really entertaining.

As for fanfiction, there's a really good one on ff.net called Warp Gate and it's (mature-ish) sequel What Lay Beyond. SCLegacy has the rest of the good ones.
What fanfictions have you found?

Good point. Well, another likely cause could be the "Psi cocoon" encountered in the Antioch Chronicles mod.

Aldaris: You hate him straight from the beginning, but after he's dead, you love him and want him to come back. At least his advising and threats were a bit more bearable than Kerrigan's or the Overmind's. The Terran advisor just plain didn't care. "Oh, wouldja lookit that, a nuke is headed straight for your Command Center... want some tea?"

Ahh, I always wondered what the Tassadar/Zeratul archon in the Map Editor was for... Nnn, and here I was hoping that somehow they'd combine in SC2... Wishful thinking, I know. But Tassadar/Zeratul would be awesome, since they're the two greatest characters in the whole game.

Hmmpf. That seems kinda half-assed, substituting the unit coding for exploding. At least it intensifies the storyline, though, even if Tass gets kasploded.

I'm a noob when it comes to internet shopping, and whats more, I don't think I have a credit card around, so online bookstores are basically no-go. I'm fairly certain that my friendy has "Liberty's Crusade", so I'll try and grab that off him. The library MAY have some... But I seriously doubt it. Its not cool enough for that.

*goes to look for that now* The other fanfictions I read weren't really big - I just kinda flicked through a couple and read a chapter or two. Can't remember the names either. ><;

Yeah, its a sad thing when Aldaris dies. He's been with you through the beginning, through everything. He's an annoying, stupid, obsessed fanatic - who makes some pretty idiotic decisions - but once he's gone, there's an empty hole left to fill. Sure, you have Artanis, who's the resident Protoss dork, and you have Raszagal, the local brainwashed oldy, but without Aldaris...

I find it really random that during the "Ground Zero" version of the Terran campaign, when, you know how the Ghosts come to unload all those nukes on you? And the reinforcements come, which is like a whole army in itself... but they get nuked before you can move them? Or maybe that was just me. Still, seems really stupid.

[[Ahaha, this is a full out Starcraft conversation. Tis the most fun I've had in a while - good to find some Toss/SC lovers out there.]]

I know - the UED are assholes - I mean, you could've probably frickin' taken out Mengsk's command center with that little army they sent you, but nooo they had to go and be idiots and frickin... like... leave them in the middle of the nukes!

I'm reading the sequel to "Warp Gate" at the moment. Both were/are fantastic.
